DOEReview A report published on 24 September, 2005 suggests that the outlook for the Irish construction industry remains predominantly positive with a trend towards further growth although the current cycle of successive annual record-breaking levels of housing output may have peaked at 77,000 during 2004. The value of output in the industry in 2004 is estimated at €27.6bn (a 16% increase on output of €23.8bn registered in 2003). Direct employment in the sector has now reached an unprecedented high of 235,000 people.

These are among the key findings of the Review of the Construction Industry 2004 and Outlook 2005-2007 produced by DKM Economic Consultants. The report, which appears annually, was commissioned by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
